A thing you must NOT take for granted

My housemate asked me to burn a DVD for her. She needed to copy the files to my laptop which has a young install of Windows XP Media Center - not even two weeks old. The file transfer from the PC to my BB alerted the virus team. And so it alerted me too to install Avast again. A number of trojans and worms wormed their way into the system that now I am thinking they might be the culprit behind the one or the other browser.

Security is one thing you should remember and not take for granted.

Confirmed: EITHER/OR!! at least in my old laptop

I really don't understand why it has to be this way in my laptop. Now, I couldn't install Firefox after I did Chrome! Help..tell me why. Where have I gone wrong. I experimented again and I feel I shouldn't have. The Firefox loaded fast while I can't open Chrome, and now that Chrome's on, I can't seem to bring back Firefox. Facebook loads slower in Chrome and I'd like to use Firefox for it, to see if there's really a difference.

Hah. I'm stuck with Chrome for now.

Chrome versus Firefox! Neither can live while the other survives!

Hah! This really is getting confusing. Or should I say there's a deepening of the conspiracy theory I formulated two days ago? I uninstalled Firefox just to see if Chrome would work. I reinstalled Chrome and voila! Chrome works. I wonder what would happen if I install Firefox again..maybe I should already stick to Chrome and stop this seeming nonsense. Hey tinkering with things is not nonsense. It could give light to why things are the way they are.

But the liner says neither can live while the other survives. Should be changed to either one or the other!!!

Is it my laptop or Firefox's revenge?

My three year old laptop has undergone like six reinstallations of Windows XP Media Center 2005. Recently I used some sort of partition magic to restructure the drives and also defragmented them. It drove me nuts (not really) because the end result I was looking forward to - speedy access of files and folders, apparently is not taking effect.

My programmer friend suggested I increase my 512MB RAM but I'm holding on to my money, what with the DDR being the most expensive of the series.

So yesterday I thought one little hurdle for accessing my Gmail under Chrome was on its way. I even told all the world about it in this blog! And today...I cannot open my Chrome. Did Firefox read my blog and did something overnight about the musing? To prove me wrong? The raves I had for Chrome are now applicable to good ol' Firefox!

Nah..I just think I need to say goodbye to my laptop and say hello to a new model. I can do that when I get to collect payments from my current client. And when it does happen, I will still think about it.

Gmail faster on Chrome....hmm...

For the past days I had been exercising the virtue of patience with my Gmail on Firefox. This morning I read somewhere that it opens faster in Chrome? So I did what a practical person did. I installed Chrome again. When I first did, I saw that it was really neat but the downside to that was I couldn't use my mouse scroll on it. So I reverted to Firefox. Now that I'm using Chrome, I still think it's pretty cool and am able to use my mouse scroll! That's more cool/cooler.

Gmail faster on Chrome...slow to open in Firefox. Is that a planned effort to veer Firefox users to Chrome?

What's happening to Facebook

I don't know if it's only me, or it may be my old laptop that's getting slower and slower each time. But don't you think Facebook takes too long to load now? I noticed the speed or the slowness two weeks ago when before with just one click, I'm at the designated page. Now it takes even more than five minutes before the page loads? This is getting to be getting on my nerves. Patience really is a virtue but if originally just with a snap, voila, what one needs is delivered, how annoying it is to wait a few more seconds for it to load. Facebook, listen up!

Is it time to stop being a "Mr. Nice GAL"?

I have credit cards and a good heart. And practicality dictates that if I want to add Mabuhay Miles, I can pay goods and services using my Mabuhay Miles credit card. I have the wanderlust and so the more miles accumulated, the easier it will be to my next travel destination!

Last January I offered to pay for the gadget of my friend, being sure she would not miss in the deferred 6-month 0% payment. Boy, I was so wrong. And I do regret having offered to pay for her in the first place. Maybe I should have done my own credit investigation. During the course of the five months, I accumulated like up to one Globe card worth Php 100 in trying to run after her. She didn't tell me directly she cannot pay for it. Like the first time she passed the buck to her other friend who owed her money, this latter half she was passing the buck to her brother in Canada. Which up to now, there's no update as to the softening of his heart. Oh, and the opposite has just started to happen in my heart! Hay, sigh. Good thing I was able to borrow money. But heck, for these six months, she hasn't paid a single peso for that gadget! Hay, sigh part two. It's showing that my friend is really a "friend".

From this, I learned a valuable lesson. I found out the hard way: it is good to be a "Mr. Nice GAL" (not only in lending money but in other personally rendered services). Though it has its risks. Be careful who you lend money to or else the hand that feeds may be bitten to shreds and thrown to the loan sharks. Ow.

Contra Con Ass Day

Geez! Today's a meeting day with a financial investor and then I find out there will be rerouting at 9am in prep for the 4pm Rally against Con Ass. I hope it won't affect much the route of the rich person and that the meeting starts on time.I need to smile at the sun so that the morning would be indeed a sunny morning, literally AND figuratively.

Like in most of the anti government rallies, Makati is home to anti government peeps. Why couldn't the rally happen somewhere else? The rallyists are backed up by Mayor Binay, one of the most outspoken critics of the Arroyo government.

Going back to my first paragraph..Don't get me wrong. I'm not the millionaire type. I don't even have a steady income, but we've got to start somewhere, right? Even if it has long been overdue. Good thing, I'm still here on earth and while on earth, there's still a chance to do good. Haha! Serious!

It's a long time since I last blogged, today will be the first day (again) of the rest of my life. For posterity reasons, here goes the adventurer again.
